PASCHIMOTTANASANA – Sitting Forward Bending Pose

This asana is called PASCHIMOTTANASANA because “AASCHIM” is back and “UTTANA” means stretching , hence when the back is stretched forwarded then it is known as PASCHIMOTTANASANA .It gives increased energy and opening to the lower abdomen.

METHOD-TECHNIQUE

  1. Sit down , erect with legs stretched in front of you, heels attached to each other and toes upturned.
  2. The thumb, middle and index fingers should be used to catch the toes and then the upper body is bended and moved forward.
  3. Now exhale slowly and bend down the trunk so as to place the for head on the knees, try bending as much as possible.
  4. Stretch the arms in front of you . Hold the pose for 5-10 seconds initially and steadily augment the duration.
  5. Then release the toes and with gradual inhalation rise as much as the sitting place.
  6. Place the elbows on the bottom.
  7. Don’t hurry to be excellent in a day or two, as a result of yoga must be achieved gradual and regular.

BENEFITS

  1. Diabetes, piles are cured and the back muscles i.e the spine become flexible.
  2. Due to spine flexible, the nerves and glands of the whole system can function properly. So always try to keep spine flexible in YOGA.
  3. Extremely useful for skin diseases.
  4. Those who have excessive sweating are benefited by this asanas.
  5. Helpful for reducing abdominal fat.
  6. Stimulates endocrine glands, kidneys, liver and pancreases.
  7. It is a help in curing of constipation, Diarrhoea and wet dreams etc.
  8. It removes lethargy and weak point and makes the physique healthy, enduring and fairly energetic.

CAUTIONS

People having abnormal increase of the liver and spleen, appendicitis or Hernia are strictly debarred from its practice.

For its best practice , evenings are best since the nerves and muscles of the body remains stiff in the morning.
