THE PURPOSE OF LIFE – RONJOY BORDOLOI

THE PURPOSE OF LIFE

You become what you think”-Dr. Wayne W. Dyer.

When I ask people what is the Purpose of their Life, either I get blank faces or distorted answers about being Famous, earning Money, Travelling preferred destinations, getting a Good Job, having a Happy and Contented Life, etc. Moreover, when the same Question is repeated, the answers change just as swiftly.

Let me ask you: What is the Purpose of Your Life? Why are we born into this Blue Planet, with a Yellow Star and a White Dead Moon? Why do we Play in our Early Days, work like hogs in our Adult Hood and die Old and worn out? If we were meant to just take birth, reproduce incessantly and fade away into the vast unknown, it would be better not to take birth at the first place! How do we lead a Happy and Contented life?

What then is the purpose and meaning of Living and Dying and Sailing through our existence in this Universe, through Space and Time?

Great Men have pondered over this matter and some invaluable literature has been written. And these Great Men include Thinkers like Socrates, Plato, Aristotle, and Chanakya and some remarkable Godly individuals like Buddha, Christ, Krishna, Confucius, Lao Tzu, and Srimanta Sankar Deva, to name a few. Also, some prodigious books have been written, that include ageless Classics and Books of religion like the Quran, the Bible, Bhagavad Gita, Ramayana, Mahabharata, etc. And all of them have come to the same conclusion, by one means or another, by example or by quotes, to the parable of “the one thing by knowing which everything else is known”. And no one has put the Conclusion better than Aristotle himself-“Knowing Yourself is the beginning of all Wisdom”.

This simple wisdom may seem out of bounds at first, but the more we dig deeper into our own individual purposes and work for a cause, the deeper we delve into ourselves and understand our true nature and purpose of Living. Hence, the true purpose of Life is to Know Ourselves and to comprehend that we all are parts of an Infinite Whole and that whole resides in each and every particle of this Universe. Nothing can have a separate existence and even Science corroborates the same. That is the reason why ‘the Bible’ preaches about ‘Knowing Thyself’ and so does ‘Buddha’. True enlightenment lies within us.

There may be various versions of the same truth, like people may say that there true purpose of life is to help others, live a life of Charity, dignity, Music etc, however, we need to know that these endeavours are also, after all, ways to connect to our higher selves, through which we can feel the bliss of the Ultimate Omnipresent Godhead, by whatever name it may be known as.

In addition, it is also mandatory to quote the Bhagavad Gita when it says that-”One is considered the best Yogi, who regards every being like One Self, and who can feel the pain and pleasures of others as one’s own.”

Thus, as we can see, the means to the ends might be many, but the Goal of all the Faiths of this world relies on the realisation of the one true fact of finding One Self. And the same can be attained through positive thoughts and action, with the power of the Free Will bestowed upon us by the Supreme Intelligence. The Choice, thereby, lies with every Conscious Individual and his own Thought vibrations. “

“You become what you think”. Thoughts and imagination play a very important role in the path of Knowing One Self as “You cannot say what you cannot think and you cannot think what you cannot say.”

Therefore, as Lao Tzu had beautifully constructed, his famous Quote still holds true-“Watch your thoughts; they become words, Watch your words; they become actions, Watch your actions; they become habits, Watch your habits; they become character, Watch your character; it becomes your destiny.”

In the end, a simple re-iteration is required on the fact that whatever Cause you may choose, whatever Purpose of life you may vouch for; be it Good or Bad, whatever you may decide to do with your life, just Pause, Reflect and Think and spend some quality time with yourself, for in your own true self hides the keys to the doors of your Destiny. And remember, whatever you decide to do; it ultimately is an exercise to understand Your True Nature and a mechanism to make this life worth living, Consciously and Mindfully.

So….. What is the Purpose of Your Life?
